Moment of truth

"MOMENT OF TRUTH" is a Survivors hit and was a theme of the early movie "THE KARATE KID." The same theme will be the battle cry of some 185 runners who will attempt to finish the crueling and historical the 1st Cebu 50K Ultramarathon that fires off on November 27 at Mt. Manunggal in Balamban and will end at the Cebu Provincial Capitol. On the route map, it looks challenging but attainable. However several runners who did a practice runs, swore it's really a tough course and could affect the ratio of finish. Some even suggested to add an hour to the eight- hour cut off after trying out the route. We will discuss this matter with organizer Jonel Mendoza of Frontrunner Magazine when he arrives for the final briefing on November 25 at 5:30 at Captain A's Grill in Asiatown IT Park. We will have a final clinic with Irish mountain marathon champion Francis Cosgrave. We will also distribute race packets and will have a carbo-loading at the said venue. Meanwhile, I’ve coordinated with Balamban councilor Dave Karamihan on the Municipality's support. Dave said Mayor Ace Binghay will be fielding 10 Balamban traffic personnel while providing an ambulance and a dump truck that will ferry participants to the site. The truck departs from Kumbira Restaurant (just near the Centcom entrance and fronting JY Square.) at 2:30 a.m. For those who want to camp out, the Tourism Pavillon in Balamban will also be opened to accomodate campers. CITOM on the other hand will take over from BATOM upon reaching Gaas with ERUF also fielding an ambulance. All inquiries will be answered when we meet at Captain A's, so don't miss it.  Power of 3 goes to CICCP

To accommodate a projected over 1,500 participants because of the unresistible perks, organizers of the San Miguel , Purefoods- sponsored Run to the Power of 3, has been moved from Parkmall to the more spacious Cebu International Convention Center also on the same date December 5. Over 100,000 in cash prizes will be at stake with the champions in the 10K division each receiving P10,000. An entry fee of P300 will entitle a runner P200 worth of San Miguel food products and a singlet. Registration is now in full swing at the Runnr Ayala , Casa Ilongga at Robinsons Place, PSC office at the Cebu City Sports Center abd at the entrance of the Sports Center.

RUNNR ANNIVERSARY

Several treats have been scheduled by Runnr to mark its first anniversary on November 24. Runnr president Toby Claudio will be arriving to grace the fun run /clinic graduation on Wednesday. Then on November 27, another running clinic will be conducted at the Active Zone starting at 1:00 pm with Pio Solon and Dr. Reel Bontol as speakers. Of course as part of it's anniversary, big discounts on Runnr products will be offered with instant prizes awaiting shoppers.

NOTE: Registration to the traditional Midnight Run is now ongoing at Runnr and at City Sports Club Cebu. The race, the only of its kind in the country will be limited to only 500 runners on a first come-first served basis. Some 150 Ungo runners have already registered. There's less than 200 slots left.
