Busy running weekend
There are four running events set tomorrow in what has been reported as the busiest day yet for the sport here in Cebu.
The running boom has obviously encouraged many to organize events, which is both good and bad for the sport. Good in the sense that it keeps the runners active, but bad as sometimes there are too many events and it confuses the enthusiasts aside from the other ill-effects of having too much of a good thing.
I bumped into Dr. Peter Mancao, one of the foremost running buffs in Cebu, who shared with me some of his views about what is happening now.
Peter has been involved in running for several years now and has joined in marathons abroad.
He said that there are some of the older events in Cebu that seem to have been set aside because of the newer races that are scheduled on the same day.
Another running enthusiast told us that there are organizers, who book dates even if they don't have an event yet, which is a practice that is very sad.
One of the races tomorrow will be held in the town of Boljoon, probably the favorite place of my kids in the far south of Cebu.
While I discourage the holding of simultaneous events in Cebu City and the nearby cities, I encourage the towns to hold their own runs, but these should be done properly and not simply because it has become a fad.
Maybe the running event organizers can help the towns that are far from the city put together a running event, just don't make it too hard for them in terms of your asking price hehehe…

I wonder what major international sporting event is brewing in Lapu-Lapu City.
I got a call from one of my favorite generals based in Mactan, Efren Belarmino, general manager of Plantation Bay Resort and Spa, who invited me to attend their press conference tomorrow.
I must be losing my touch when it comes to getting information as he would not tell me what it is.
Maybe it's his way of saying that I should go there. I'll do my best Efren, but I love to be there.

Qualfon's 1st Invitational Golf Tournament is happening on November 27 at the Alta Vista Golf and Country Club.
The organizers said last weekend that this is the first time that somebody from their industry is hosting a golf tournament.
The event is billed as a chance for the local golf community to party like the way they do at Qualfon.
There are of course the usual stuff like giveaways and raffles, said Alvin Suarez, who is helping put this together. Entry fee is pegged at P2,500.
