Unseated, but still rated

FULL POINT - Nimrod NL Quiñones -

We all saw it coming, but still there have been a lot of buzz when Tiger Woods lost his number one ranking in the world of golf.

After struggling with marital problems, which have mainly been blamed on him, and a hiatus that somewhat calmed down some of the adverse publicity but had not done much for his game, this year has definitely been very tough for Tiger.

Although he has announced that he seems to have his groove back, there is a lot of work ahead for Tiger to regain not only his top ranking, but also the confidence of many of his fans and sponsors.

His hold of the top spot was already spectacular in itself. Nobody has been there that long and no golfer has made as much money as Tiger had including his endorsements.

Like Michael Jordan, there have been a lot of young players billed as the next Tiger, but nobody has come close enough yet.

Just like Mike, there have been Kobe Bryant, Vince Carter and most recently LeBron 'The Decision' James, but they still could not match what His Airness had done for basketball.

In fact, Tiger, who has used the career of Jack Nicklaus as his meter stick, can never be like his idol in so many ways.

When I come across stories like Tiger's fall from the top, I remember a lesson that my judo coach, Leonardo 'Jojo' Roa, Jr. told me — reaching the top may be tough, but staying there is tougher.

Expect Tiger to be back on top one of these days and that is something that you can be sure of just like tapping the ball in from the lip of the cup.

The members of the Philippine Society for Industrial Security (PSIS)-7, who are taking part in the organization's shootfest on the 29th will gather at the NS Outdoor Range in Tawason, Mandaue City on November 13 for a briefing and orientation.

This is the first time that the organization is holding a shooting competition and it shall be using the International Defensive Pistol Association (IDPA) format.

The members of the organization, who are joining the orientation and the competition are asked to contact the office of PSIS-7 for registration and also for the details of the firearm that you will be using for the permit to transport.

I saw several eager members of the organization during our general assembly a couple of weekends ago and hopefully, there would be many who would take part.

This is also open to other shooters and the details will be announced later.

What I am sure of though is that the entry fee is only P500 and this entitles the shooter to a free lunch.

The gun ban ends on the 10th of November and many of my friends are now very eager to head back to the range.
