- Caecent No-ot Magsumbol -

CEBU, Philippines - Cash incentives will be given to the Mandaue City medalists in the week-long 2010 PLDT-ABAP Visayas Area Amateur Boxing Championships at the Mandaue City Plaza Square.

This was bared by Mandaue City Sports and Development Commission

Executive Director Hidelito Pascual to The Freeman.

Mandaue won a total of five golds, three silvers and two bronzes that paved the way for the host city to bag the overall championship.

The gold medalists were Kevin Jake Cataraja, Albert Pagara, Eleno Traya, Dannlou Codilla and Michael Lorenz Romarate.

The other medalists are Melvin Besinnga, Reoxyl Tabogon, Mark Vincent Bernaldez and Robert Etorma and Christian Apawan.

The cash equivalent for each medal will be announced later.

Councilor Daddie Suico promised to back up the proposed incentive through a resolution for the City Council’s pproval.

During the awarding ceremony of the event, gold medalists received P1,000 each while silver medalists took home P700 and P500 for the bronze medalists.

The money came from PLDT.

Aside from the promised incentives for their efforts in the Visayas Championships, the likes of Bernaldez, Romarate, Pagara and Codilla are also awaiting for the release of their cash incentive during the Tinga Cup National invitational tournament in Manila a few months ago.

The Freeman learned that the resolution has already been approved for the said pugilists’ incentives, but have not yet been released until this time.

A source said, they hope that the Mandaue City government will do good of the promise so as not to demoralize the youngsters who work hard to win medals with the hope of getting incentives as well for their respective family and school needs. (FREEMAN)
