Lopez rules 21-K race

CEBU, Philippines - Mendel Lopez finally returned to his winning form as he ruled the 2010 Citigym Half Marathon also known the Halloween Run which started and ended at Waterfront Cebu City Hotel and Casino in Lahug here yesterday.

Lopez, who set aside running to focus on his review classes for the Geodetic Engineering exam, which he passed, is back on track winning the 21-k race in one hour, 13 minutes and 57.74 seconds.

Lopez left his challengers at the turning point, nine kilometers going into the finish line and never looked back.

Adonis Singson settled for second with 1:14.04.99 while John Philip Duenas ended third with 1:14:22.15.

Mary Grace de los Santos, for her part, posted back-to-back victories in 21-k runs.

After ruling the Adidas King of the Road in Manila, de los Santos won another crown after posting 1:20:55.96 as against Mary Joy Tabal’s 1:23:03.

Christy Sevilleno-Tutor wound up third with a time of 1:32:13.07, Mereeiz Ramirez fourth with 1:34:43.12 and Engr. Lorhiz Echavez was fifth with a 1:40:58.31 clocking.

Citigym clients also showcased their wares and John Ong emerged victorious with a 1:35:55.04 clocking over Gabby Lariosa, who timed 1:47:27.10.

Jerry Uy got the third place with a 2:03:05 clocking.

In the 12-k action, it was Elmer Bartolo who got the top spot with a time of 40 minutes and 31.65. Jobert Carolino was second with 40:34.93 and Ian Bernido settled for third with 42:21.03.

In the distaff side, Madelyn Carter’s decision to just do a 12-k run came out fruitful as she topped her class with a time of 49:36.21.

Second was Miriam Miranda with 50:17.24 while Joery Lee ended third in 59:11.90.

On the other hand, the client’s 12-k action saw Roirich Masong on top with a time of 54:15.48 while the 6-k battle had Mico Quizon as the fastest in his 34:42.10 and Michel Largo in the 3-k clients run with 10:55.96.

The 6-k men’s open on this Sports and Fitness Enthusiasts (SAFE)-officiated event had Joel Delposo on top and Rosemarie Adlawan on the girls’ side while the 3-k open saw Garry Garcia dominating the boy’s division and Princess Pepito in the girls’ division. (FREEMAN)
