Alta Vista jungolfers lead

CEBU, Philippines - Players from the host club led the way going into the final round of the 6th Alta Vista Jungolf Challenge played at the par-70 AVGCC course in Pardo, this city.

While the course plays a par-72 on regular days, the organizers of the tournament shortened holes number 9 and 18 into par-4s.

Gio Gandionco led the hosts in class A (15-17 years old) with a two-day total of 150 strokes on rounds of 72 and 78. He is followed by teammate Dominic Espinoza with a total of 157 (77-80) while Cebu Country Club’s LJ Go is at third with 158 (81-77).

Del Monte’s Clyde Mondilla and Alta Vista’s David Park are tied for fourth with two-day aggregates of 162.

In the distaff side, Alta Vista’s Emmylou Tan fired rounds of 85 and 86 for a total of 171.

In class B (13 to 14 years old), Canlubang’s Ruperto Zaragosa fired identical rounds of 71 for a two-day total of 142. A far second is Del Monte’s JJ Gamolo with 165 (82-83) and at third is Zamboanga’s Isaac Elumba with 169 (84-85).

For the girls division of this age group, Club Filipino’s Jin Sik Kwak is running first with 168 (78-90) and is closely trailed by Ericka Lim of Alta Vista with 170 (88-82) and Ayesha Yunam also of AVGCC with 171 (85-86).

Action for classes A and B as well as the special division started Wednesday as they are playing 54 holes.

The special class, which is for those already past the jungolf age, has Edsel Tan of Alta Vista setting a scorching pace with a two-day total of 147 on rounds of 74 and 73. At second is Eldon Elumba of Zamboanga with 182 (96-86).

In class C (11-12), Wei Wei Gao of Alta Vista set the pace for the boys division with an opening round of 83 strokes. At second is Jaime Oposa of Alabang with 84 while Nico Canlas of Pueblo de Oro is third with 89.

In the girls division, Pamela Mariano and Rainstar Roque of del Monte hold the top two positions with scores of 81 and 88 respectively. At third is Alta Vista’s Joan Hortelano with 91.

Jets Sajulga of del Monte leads class D (9-10) with 81 strokes followed by Ian Aldo of Riviera with 85 and del Monte’s Russel Bautista with 86.

In the girls division, Mactan’s Angela Mangana scored 99 strokes to lead Alta Vista’s Junia Gabasa, who had 108.

In class E (6-8) where action is limited to nine holes per day, Alta Vista holds the top three spots for the boys division with Kevin Park scoring 39, Jun Hyun Back with 49, and Mark Cannen with 55.

In the distaff side, Alta Vista’s Wei Fang Gao shot 54.

The final round of the tournament will be played today.
