Team game
The much-hyped transfer of LeBron James to the Miami Heat was put to an acid test in the opening of the 2010-2011 season of the NBA, but his stellar performance wasn't enough to deliver a win for his team against the Boston Celtics.
While players are a key element in a winning basketball team, that is not all that is needed.
James may have made 31 points, but his team still lost by eight points.
Of course it is just the first regular season game and there are still some adjust-ments that need to be done in order to fine tune the Heat that shall hopefully drive them to their quest for a first NBA title.
I doubt if that will happen this season though. I wonder what my best friend, Un-dersecretary Christopher Tio of the Communications Group, has to say about this.
He used to be the biggest Miami Heat fan that I know. I wonder if he still has time to follow his favorite ballclub now that he is busy with work in government.

The Texas Rangers and the San Francisco Giants will meet in the opener of the World Series of Major League Baseball this morning (RP time).
The Rangers will start star pitcher Cliff Lee, who has an impeccable 7-0 record in the post season.
The Giants will have Fil-American Tim Lincecum as starter.
Although baseball's following is probably just a drop in the bucket compared to the basketball fans in our country, I am sure that this World Series would generate a lot of interest here particularly because of Lincecum.
It would have been better if the New York Yankees made it, but then I'll have to be satisfied with the fact that the team did make it quite far.
If there is something my other friends, who are also following baseball, want from the Yankees, it is probably their very high salaries hehehe…
I will definitely not be rooting for the Rangers in the World Series as I would like to see the Fil-Am pitcher win and this shall hopefully encourage more Pinoys to also try baseball as a sport.

Cebu's boxing fans will get another taste of foreign-flavored action in this Satur-day's extravaganza dubbed as "Pinoy Pride."
In my early years as a sportswriter, we only dreamed of covering boxing events that were held in hotel ballrooms as the only places that we were held then was the Cebu Coliseum and the other gyms around Metro Cebu.
Boxing did not seem to fit well in the ballrooms of hotels, but that has changed now.
One reason of course why holding boxing promotions in hotel ballrooms wasn't done was the high cost involved.
Also, in the past, your typical boxing fan would prefer to go to the event in short pants, t-shirt an slippers. You, however, could not blame them for dressing down as the venues were also super hot.
This Saturday, there would not only be Cebu's usual boxing fans, but also several people from other parts of the country and the world to witness the bouts.
I plan to go there early to be able to find a parking slot.
