Cebuana to compete in Mayon Trail Run

- Caecent No-ot Magsumbol -

CEBU, Philippines - After missing last year’s event, Cebuana extreme sport enthusiast Merlita Arias-Dunkin is hoping to make a great comeback when the Mayon Trail Run unfolds early today in the country’s most scenic volcano.

Arias-Dunkin was second to fellow Cebuana Leizl Lumindas-Getaruelas during the inaugural staging in 2008.

The veteran trail runner Arias-Dunkin wanted to get the crown she missed in the first edition but failed to proceed with her bid last year due to bad weather that hampered her travel to Luzon.

This time, Arias-Dunkin is setting her sights on finally conquering her dream even as she will just be by herself.

Under the 21K women’s open, Arias-Dunkin and the rest of the participants will be dealing with three mountains, hot volcanic trails, Japanese tunnel and other exotic places.

Organized by the Junior Chamber International Philippines-Legazpi Chapter, the race is designed to be one of the premiere trail running event in the country.

The King and Queen of the Mayon Trails will get US$1,000 each, while the second and third placers will take home $500 and $250. (FREEMAN SPORTS)
