Engaged

FULL POINT - Nimrod NL Quiñones -

Guard Sasha Vujacic of the Los Angeles Lakers is the envy of many men. Why not? This guy is engaged to marry tennis superstar Maria Sharapova.

Vujacic, who is from Slovenia, averaged only 2.8 points and 1.2 rebounds in 67 games for the Lakers last season.

On the side of love, he seems to be doing so much better bagging the three-time Grand Slam winner from Russia.

Sharapova has not only displayed her skills and talent on the court, but also in several magazines including one of the world's most anticipated - the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Edition.

More than being just another pretty face on the court, Sharapova proved that she does not have the looks alone, but also the ability to play.

If you are headed south today in preparation for Monday's barangay and SK elec-tions, try to drop by the town of Dumanjug, which is hosting the games for Cluster 2B of the Gov. Gwendolyn Garcia Unity Volleyball (GUV) Cup.

Action starts this 8 a.m. and will continue for the rest of the day. There will also be more games set tomorrow. By the way, games will be for both the men and women's divisions.

The GUV Cup brings the games to various areas around the province in order to allow the people a chance to watch the action and at the same time provide top quality volleyball equipment that meets the international standards to the various towns.

This way, after several years, all towns and component cities of the province shall have the equipment that can be used to hold tournaments aside from the GUV Cup.

The GUV is probably the best thing to happen for volleyball in Cebu as it does not only focus on getting the people to play, but more importantly to also improve the skills of the players, coaches and even game officials.

Do you want to learn how to box? Do you want to learn taekwondo? If you an-swer yes to any of the two questions, you can head to the San Nicolas Sports Complex this 2 p.m.

This is a free program offered by the Cebu City Sports Commission and we have not only coaches but also the young athletes helping out in the clinic.

The San Nicolas Sports Complex has been chosen as the place that would house the Cebu City Sports Institute.

After boxing and taekwondo, there would be other sports clinics that would also be offered here.

I am keeping my fingers crossed for another win of the New York Yankees in the American League Championship Series.

Game 6 is set today in Texas, with the Rangers hoping to wrap up the series. I hope they don't.
