Cebu City Marathon draws lots of entries
CEBU, Philippines – In less than a week since opening its registration, the 2011 Cebu City Marathon set January 9 at the Asiatown IT Park in Apas here is selling like hotcakes.
So far, over 1,500 have already signed up for the event as bared by ASAP's Perl Jacalan to The Freeman.
In its opening day alone, organizers bared that there were able to attract 550 runners to enlist at the Active Zone of the Ayala Center Cebu.
The deadline is set on December 15 yet.
It was such a surprise for organizers as usually runners here register only a few days before the deadline.
Cebu's centerpiece road running event features a full marathon spiced up with the 21-k and 5-k races.
Runners will be using the latest timing chip device imported from the U.S that also got the Cebuanos more interested in the event.
Aside from that instead of the usual singlet, the first 4,500 participants get to have a shirt from New Balance, one of the event's major sponsors, that makes the registration fee very worth it.
All the 42-k finishers also get to have specially-designed medals.
Registration fee for the 5-k action is pegged at P500, P600 for 21K and P800 for the 42K.
For those who have not yet registered, the event's registration booth will be open from 12 noon to 8 pm daily.
To save time, one can also download registration forms at the event's website www.cebumarathon.com. (FREEMAN)
