CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY, Philippines - It's green and go for the 2nd National Milo Little Olympics tonight at Don Gregorio Pelaez Sports Center here with thousands of athletes from all over the country here for today's grand opening.

Defending champion, Team Visayas, which is made up mostly of Cebu-based athletes, is again a favorite in the event.

Team Visayas regional executive director Ricky Ballesteros is optimistic with the athletes who will be fighting for glory, especially in the ball games where most of the points for the battle for the overall crown will come from.

"This year we have molded quality athletes who are combat-ready because we would like to defend our title. I'm confident with Team Visayas especially in the ball-games basing on their performances in the regional games and they had the ample time to practice in preparation to this competition," said Ballesteros.

"We will do great, as long as we will be consistent in the first and second spots in the other events and just as long as they play their best," Ballesteros added.

No less than the CEO of Nestle Philippines, Inc., John Miller, will grace the opening along with former Senator Aquilino Pimentel Jr.

One of the highlights of the opening ceremonies will be the formal turning over of torch from Cebu Governor Gwen Garcia to Misamis Oriental Governor Oscar Moreno.

To recall, Cebu hosted the inaugural MLO Nationals last year.

Gold medalist Josafat John Simon Licayan will lead the oath of sportsmanship while Jerwin Ebcas will light of the Friendship Urn.

Department of Education (DepEd) Region X regional director Luz Almeda will formally declare the opening of one of the grandest multi-sporting events in the country.

The games and matches of the different sporting events will officially start tomorrow in various venues.
