CEBU, Philippines – The Mark Russ Gamallo-skippered Pecandela Law Firm complete a three-game semifinal round sweep after scoring a 61-53 victory over defending champion Super Idols in the 5th Lawyer's League 2010 Integrated Bar of the Philippines (IBP) Mayor's Cup basketball tournament at the Capitol Parish gym along Escario Street, this city.
The Pecandela used a 20-6 rally in the second period to take a commanding 16-point lead at halftime, 34-18.
The Super Idols fought back in the fourth period sparked by Wilson Ibones but time was not on their side. Ibones exploded with 15 points in that quarter alone and fin-ished with 25 points.
Tommy Yu spearheaded Pecandela with 18 points while Gamallo added 10 points.
The Super Idols got 10 points each from Erwin Heyrosa and Sim Arga-wanon.
In the other game, the Litigators whipped the winless Pañeros, 75-70, to stay at the second spot.
Jun Tambago and Eugene Sumampong had 13 points each for the Litigators even as Richard Bauzon and Lito Ortiz added 12 and 10 points, respectively.
In the wild card category, Mt. Zion beat the Bros 'N Law led by Mayor Mike Rama, 65-60, while the Iron Eagles ran over YLAC, 76-66. (FREEMAN)
