Surban rules in Talisay mountainbike tourney

- Caecent No-ot Magsumbol -

CEBU, Philippines - Fresh from a successful stint in the Asian Mountainbike Championships in South Korea, Niño Surban easily collected another title through the 1st Talisay City Vice mayor Alan Bucao Mountainbike Challenge.

Surban outpedalled the daring Randy Carbonera for the top spot as Albert Basirgo wound up third.

Rey Carbonera made up for his brother’s loss by winning the combined junior-beginner class against Elmer Navarro, while Jezam Baldomar came out third.

Ramon Espinosa, on the other hand, ruled the veterans class over Junasis Alicaway and Nilo Barbalose, while Roman Suplig topped the executive division after edging out Toto Lim and Albert Paraiso.

In the equally-exciting downhill event, Carlos Russell emerged as the fastest among all pro riders with the time of one minute and 46.23 seconds.

Motocrosser-downhiller Dongkey Sanchez came in 20 seconds behind Russell, while Zandro Fajardo landed at third place with the time of :49.88.

Fajardo though did not go home empty-handed as he took home the intermediate crown with the time 1:50.38. Lex Lopez wound up second in 1:53.22 followed by Victor Bagano in 2:00.55.

Eusebio Ravanes, Jr. grabbed part of the limelight by winning the beginners class in 1:50.20. Maximo Villarta, Jr. placed second in 2:00.70, while Julius Amigable copped the third place honors in 2:05.21. (THE FREEMAN)
