Jawad tablenet fires off

- Caecent No-ot Magsumbol -

CEBU, Philippines – It has almost been two decades since his life was cut short and the crime remains unsolved, but his legacy in table tennis lives on thanks to his loving family.

Today, the 19th edition of the Erne Jawad Memorial Table Tennis Tournament will open at the Elizabeth Mall.

Jawad, a former member of the Philippine team, was one of Cebu's best-loved table paddlers because of how he cared for his fellow players.

By holding this annual event, the legacy of Jawad lives on and the competition also allows the younger generation to continue to benefit from his selflessness.

Over a hundred players from Cebu, other parts of the Visayas and Mindanao are seeing action this year.

This will, however, be the first time that the event takes place in October instead of its regular schedule every September, upon the request of the mall management.

The two-day event will feature the men and women's open, boys and girls' 17-under and 12-under classes. (FREEMAN)
