Freeman Cebu Sports

Pink sports

FULL POINT - Nimrod NL Quiñones -

The month of October has been associated with one color and that is pink.

The Pink October activities have become more varied as the years have passed, but still for the purpose of getting more people aware about breast cancer and cancer in general.

I got this email yesterday from Manang Me'anne Alcordo-Solomon, who is a 'breast friend' to many.

She is one of the staunchest advocates on the early detection of breast cancer being a survivor herself.

There are several sporting events lined up among the Pink October activities, which I hope you will sup-port as your little share in the fight against breast cancer.

The first of the sports activities will be held on Sunday, the Pink Run at the Ayala Terraces starting at 5 a.m.

Registration fee for the event is pegged at P200 per runner and the distances will be 3, 5 and 10 kilome-ters. Those who want to register can sign up at the booth located at the Active Zone inside Ayala Center Cebu.

You can also register at room 104 of Cebu Doctors' Hospital and at the office of the Philippine Sports Commission at the Cebu City Sports Center.

On October 8, Friday, the Pink Tee golf tournament will be held at the Cebu Country Club.

At stake for a hole-in-one are a Foton Bizzard pick-up, a golf cart, a Daihatsu Move, and a motorcycle.

Proceeds of the golf event will go to the Chong Hua Hospital Department of Surgery Charity Services.

The Pink Bowling tournament hosted by the CETBA will be held on the 10th at the SM City Cebu Bowling Lanes.

Aside from the sports events, there are many other activities lined up that those who are not very sporty can take part in. Let us support the Pink October activities and join the fight against breast cancer.

Last Sunday's international dancesport event held at the Waterfront Cebu City Hotel and Casino did not only allow us to witness the topnotch dancers, but also allowed those from the nearby provinces to join an event of that magnitude.

Although the competition was divided into two - DanceSport sa Sugbo and the ISDF International Competition, the young competitors were on the same dancefloor as the international competitors.

Many of the competitors may never get the chance to go abroad and compete, but the experience will surely be something that they will often look back to as they grow older.

The same goes for the audience, who I'm sure, are looking forward to the next time.

There are still many things to do to make Cebu a major destination for international dance events. We have already taken several steps forward towards that goal and with more Cebuanos supporting we can truly become the world's dance capital.
