CEBU, Philippines - Defending champion Southwestern University (SWU) eyes for no less than the top spot in the women's bracket when it takes on the equally-tough University of San Carlos (USC) today at the close of elimination round in the Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. (CESAFI) volleyball event at the Aznar Coliseum.
It will be a battle royale of sort as SWU of coach Jordan Paca and USC of coach Norvie Labuga are both undefeated in four games.
“We will give our all-out best since it's very essential for us to occupy the top spot. I just told the girls to always have presence of mind in order to execute their attacks and defenses well,” said Paca.
After losing to USC, the University of Southern Philippines Foundation (USPF) hopes to emerge as the No.3 seed going into the crossover semifinals when it goes up against the University of San Jose-Recoletos (USJ-R).
In the men's side, the University of Southern Philippines Foundation (USPF) guns for a five-game sweep when it goes up against the University of the Visayas (UV), while reigning titlist University of San Jose-Recoletos (USJ-R) will tackle USC in the final match of the day.
The other games feature Cebu Doctors' University against the University of Cebu in both categories.
The crossover semis will be played on September 28, with the winners slugging it out for the championship on September 30. (FREEMAN)
