Horse set to replace slam dunk in CESAFI

- Gabby G. Malagar -

CEBU, Philippines - Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation, Inc. (CESAFI) Commissioner Felix O. Tiukinhoy, Jr. yesterday announced that since there is no Slam Dunk Contest for there are no willing participants, the H-O-R-S-E- trick game will replace it during the All-Stars on Sunday at the Cebu Coliseum.

Teams can submit the list of participants to CESAFI deputy commissioner Danny Duran. His mobile number is 0921-271-3993.

Each collegiate team is requested to field in two contestants.

Rules of horse trick game

In this game, the objective is for the team to be the last accrue the five letters, H-O-R-S-E. Often, the shots in H-O-R-S-E are trick shots or lucky shots designed to make the other person miss.

In H-O-R-S-E, player #1 is allowed to shoot from anywhere on the court. If he makes the shot, then player #2 must duplicate the same shot from the same position. If player #2 misses, he receives the first “letter” from the word horse — H.

If player #2 makes the shot, no letter is given to either player, player #2 receives control of the ball, and he can select a new shot from anywhere on the court.

If player #1 missed his original shot, then player #2 would also be free to shoot from anywhere on the court. In either case where player #2 selects a new shot, the play proceeds as before: if he makes it, it forces the next player (player #1 if there are only two players; or #3 if there are more than two players) to try and duplicate his made shots; should he/she miss, the next player has a free shot selection.

The first player to spell “horse” loses.

Players may not repeat a “made” shot. Once a shot has been made in one place or style, it cannot be taken again.

Insurance Shot: Taken when a player reaches the last letter. If made, it allows the player to stay in the game with one letter less than the maximum.

A player may be given a letter for shooting an “airball”, a shot that misses and does not hit either the backboard or the rim.

No dunking is allowed.

Players have 24 seconds each to create and mimic shots.

A referee authenticates the new shots (that the player executed what he announced) and any mimic shot.
