Corn Tee fires off in Danao City
CEBU, Philippines - All is set for the 2010 Corn Tee, which opens today at the Club Filipino course in barangay Pulangyuta, Danao City.
This is a four-day event that runs until Saturday, but participants will have to play only two rounds within the period.
As of yesterday afternoon, about 70 teams are registered for the event, which follows a four-man team format. All four scores will count for the team total.
The Modified Stableford Scoring System will be used. This format gives six points for a double-eagle, five for an ace, four for eagle, three for birdie, two for par, and one for bogey.
Club president Ramon ‘Boboy’ Durano IV said that there would be no ceremonial tee off and action starts as early as 5:30 in the morning.
The course was closed yesterday for the final preparations and the players are eager to test the vaunted greens of the layout that offers a great view of the mountains and the sea.
At stake for an ace is P1 million in the Monterrazas de Cebu Challenge. This will be for all par-3 holes. In case more than one player will score an ace, the prize shall be equally divided.
A Skygo motorcycle has also been put on the line as eagle prize for all par-5 holes. Tournament chairman Joselito ‘Jiji’ Gullas said that in case nobody will score a natural eagle during the tournament, the motorcycle will be raffled off during the awards night this Saturday at the Budyong Hall of Pagcor Mactan inside the Waterfront Airport Hotel in Lapu-Lapu City.
The major sponsors of the tournament are Pagcor Cebu and Mactan along with Rep. Ramon ‘Red’ Durano VI, Cebu Mitsumi Inc., and the Development Bank of the Philippines.
Duros, Phoenix Petroleum, Duty Free Philippines, and Imperial Palace Waterpark Resort and Spa complete the list of major sponsors.
The minor sponsors are Bank of Commerce, Smart, Foremost, Chinabank, Resorts World, Red Golf, Profood International Corp., and The Freeman.
