CEBU, Philippines - Former USJ-R Baby Jaguars pointguard Baeng Medalle sank a crucial triple and Dodong Cabigas split his charities to lift the Viking Haulers to a thrilling 92-89 victory over CRV in the 2nd F. Llamas Youth Association (FYA) basketball tournament at the Vicente Sotto Memorial Gym in Brgy. Punta Princesa, this city.
Viking trailed by a hairline with less than a minute left in the game, 88-89, but Medalle hit a crucial to put his team on top, 92-89. After CRV failed in its target to tie the count, Cabigas was fouled and could only hit one free throw but that was more than enough to seal Viking’s triumph.
Medalle, who nailed three triples in the fourth period, topscored for Viking with 24 points, while Cabigas added 14 markers as they improved their win-loss record to 5-1.
Janus Abellana had 25 points for CRV, while Bern Ylanan and Dondon Cadungog had 12 points each as they fell to 3-2.
In the other game, the Angelica slammed Leo & Rolly, 110-96, to forge a 2-4 tie with its victim.
The FYA caging is supervised by tournament director Boogie Atillo and Punta Princesa barangay councilor Ray Gabriel Salgado.
