Cañedo tops seniors' golf

CEBU, Philippines - Billy Cañedo bagged the lowest net honors in the 2010 Mid-Year Seniors Fellowship Tournament played last Wednesday at Alta Vista Golf and Country Club.

Cañedo, of the host club, fired a net score of 61 strokes off a gross six-over-par 78.

The title for the young seniors class went to Rolando Alberto, who led a sweep by players of AVGCC. Alberto had a net score of 65 strokes while first runner-up honors went to Razi Razon with 69 and second runner-up was Philip Huang with 71.

Rolly Santos, also of the host club and one of the prime movers of the organizing Federation of Philippine Senior Golfers Inc.-Cebu Chapter, topped the mature seniors class with a net score of 66 strokes.

Dominador Bartolata of Mactan Island Golf Club broke the Alta Vista domination by taking first runner-up honors in the mature seniors group with a net score of 73.  Ed Sy of AVGCC took the second runner-up award with his net score of 75.

The super seniors class was ruled by Ben Villamor with a net score of 66, again leading an Alta Vista sweep. First runner-up was Romy Hipolito with a net score of 69 while David Villono was second runner-up with a net 70.

The guest division, which is for those who haven’t reached the age of 55 or are not members of the federation, was ruled by Al Parsons with a net score of 73. First runner-up was Nilo Ybañez with 75 while Fermin Alegro was second runner-up with 83. – NLQ (THE FREEMAN)
