Until the next time

I’ve never seen a gallery here as huge as the one yesterday during the final round of the 2010 Aboitiz Invitational at the Cebu Country Club.

Even those who haven’t been playing in tournaments or the game of golf for some time now were there.

It could be the fact that we haven’t had a professional tournament in Cebu for many years now. But then another reason could be the fact that country’s best were all here to play in the 11th leg of the Philippine Golf Tour.

I’m very sure that those who were there yesterday were hoping to see more tournaments in the future.

Colo Ventosa of Pilipinas Golf Tournaments Inc., which is running the tour, said that they hope to be back next year.

Thanks to Anton Florendo for taking me around the course yesterday.

I received email earlier this week from Walter Solomon of Pagcor, who is a fellow member of the PMA Cebu Squad.

Walter informed me about the tournament set today and tomorrow at the Water Buffalo Golf Club located near the Ecotech Center in Sudlon, Lahug.

This is the 2010 President’s Cup Open Tournament with an entry fee of P500. All players are going to get giveaways aside from the chance to win the major and minor raffles and to go for a motorcycle, which is put at stake as hole-in-one prize.

The awards ceremony will be held tomorrow at Teatro Casino inside Waterfront Cebu City Hotel.

I bumped into La Salle team captain Nino Bascon at the Cebu Country Club yesterday and he is still recruiting players for the team that will see action in the tournament on Monday and Tuesday.

Toby Florendo of Ateneo, who was ironically in green yesterday, said that it would be the last time he would wear the color to prepare for the tournament.

While the rivalry of the two schools is very intense, the people involved are actually very friendly.

Among my best times at the golf course is when I play in the La Salle-Ateneo Golf Classic Cebu and that is not because I am scoring well, it’s the company.

See you all on Monday and Tuesday, but you need to play only on one day unless you decide to play twice and have your best score count.

Animo La Salle!

MILESTONES: Happy birthday to recent Cebu visitor and my mistah Lt. Col. Ignatius ‘Bong’ Patrimonio, who turns a year older today.

The same goes to classmate and our football team captain Karl Fortich, Roselyn ‘Chai’ Quezon, Maia Israel, my fellow Gray Knight JC Oliver, and my good friend Joseph Gregory Balberan.

Advance birthday greetings to Celestino ‘Tining’ Martinez III and community editor Divine Sanchez-Ngujo, who are both celebrating tomorrow.

More power to all of you! (THE FREEMAN)
