Martus falls short in NASCAP tourney
CEBU, Philippines – Cebuano ace scrabble player Engr. Teodoro Martus failed in his championship title in the National Association for Scrabble Association in the Philippines (NASCAP) - organized tournament the other day at SM City-Makati but still remained as the country's number player.
Martus finished second in the two-day tournament with 11 wins and 490 spread points.
Seventh-ranked player Melvin Dalangin bagged the crown with 13 wins and 1,457 points.
"We had six face-offs and he (Dalangin) defeated me four times. I was not really feeling well during the matches since I arrived on the day of the tournament, but I tried my best to perform well," said Martus.
Martus though is still the country's number one as the results of the tournament did not greatly affect his overall standings.
Antonio Malonzo occupied the third place with 11 wins and 91 points followed by Chris Abordo with 10 wins (478 points) and Gerardo Onate with 10 points (323 points).
Martus is setting his sights next on the national qualifying of the World Scrabble Championship in Baguio City next month. (THE FREEMAN)
