Hoping for a cure
I still suffer from the aftermath of the World Cup fever. No matter how I try to sleep early (in my case that is about midnight), I seem to manage to stay awake until early dawn, either reading or glued to whatever is on TV.
The World Cup did this me. It changed my body clock for the whole month that it was on.
I do have some souvenirs of the tournament like the shirt that I got from my cousin and fellow sports columnist, John Pages, and the memorabilia from my former fellow goalkeeper of the Queen City Football Club, Ricky Dakay.
There is also the recurring pain on my left ankle, which I sprained during the Argentina-Germany game. No, I wasn't playing, but I kind of jumped off (my rehab doc will scold me for this) the recliner when Argentina almost scored against the Germans and twisted my ankle.
So much for being among those injured during the World Cup and my son could not help but giggle when I hopped back to the chair in pain as he was rooting for Germany in that game.
I hope to really get over this and shift to the Tour de France mode as I hope to ride my bike again in honor of one of my most favorite athletes in the world - Lance Armstrong.
I don't have a road bike though, but being on my mountain bike, and being one with nature in the hills of my hometown, Minglanilla, doesn't only help me lose some gut, but allows me to relax and be one with nature.

I still can't pronounce his name properly but the victory of Louis Oosthuizen of South Africa in the British Open can be likened to how the country hosted the recent World Cup. (Here I go again.)
Oosthuizen opened the tournament superbly but with some problems just the way the World Cup opened.
In the second round, he pulled away, which was much like the way his country overcame the jitters of the first few days to iron out all the kinks.
Like the World Cup hosting, his third and fourth rounds had some scary moments, but in the end he triumphed by overcoming all obstacles to come out as a big winner.
South Africa was a big winner in the World Cup. I'm supposed to be writing about golf now, but can't help to note the similarities.

MILESTONES: Belated birthday greetings to my fellow La Sallians - Boyet Silab, who did a great job being the emcee in Sunday's grand homecoming at ASMC in Toledo City, and Bobby Martinez, who both turned a year older last Monday.
The same goes to my niece Corina Nicole 'Chin-chin' Quiñones as well as to Monette Rojas.
Belated greeting also go to those who celebrated yesterday - Allan Limas, VECO's Ethel Taneo-Natera, and Doreen Dy.
Today's greetings go to my fellow Grayknight Roderick Matta and my college classmates Archie Lim and Maggie Mañego-Cherniguin.
More power to all of you!
One last thing, I'd like to ask our pious readers to say a prayer for the soul of my father, Nonilon Frasco Quiñones, as we commemorate his 33rd death anniversary today. – THE FREEMAN
