Guadalupe, Inayawan start strong in Conor cagefest

CEBU, Philippines - Guadalupe and Inayawan posted contrasting wins at the start of the Mambaling Invitational Basketball Tournament Conor Cup last Sunday at the Brgy. Mambaling Sports Complex.

The Guadalupe dribblers led by former commercial star Alex Cainglet overcame a 20-point explosion by Danny Aying to repulse San Nicolas Proper, 88-85, while Inayawan easily dumped Tisa, 87-69.

Guadalupe, which relied on Wilson Gabucan’s 29 points, shoots for its second straight victory tonight when it goes up against Tisa, while San Nicolas hopes to bounce back against Pardo.

Cainglet and ex-USJR Jaguar Michael Almonte combined for 26 points for Guadalupe, while former UV Lancer Rene Toring netted 15 points for San Nicolas.

Baban Bacalso, on the other hand, topped Inayawan with 13 points, while ex-CIT Wildcat Joseph Guangco added 12 points.

The champion will receive P12,000.

The games will be supervised by commissioner Danny Duran, while the members of the working committee are Emir Hamis, Dodong Cuarto, Bading Arante, Dodong Lopez, Kitz Medalle, Boy Tabalin, Lando Tabalin and Dodong Galan.
