CEBU, Philippines - Adonis Singson and Mary Grace de los Santos shone brightly to lead the cast in the country’s first staging of the Energizer Night Race last Saturday at Parkmall grounds.
Interestingly, Singson’s victory in the premiere men’s 10K run was his first in four years. It was also in 2007 when the likes of Argentina, South Africa and South Korea had their first Energizer Night Race.
Last March, Malaysia got its first taste of the event and then the Philippines, with Cebu as its kick off leg as disclosed by Energizer's brand manager Joan Mendoza to The FREEMAN.
Singson completed the race in 31 minutes and 55 seconds. He was approximately ahead by 80 meters from his closest pursuer Alvirg Busa, while Philip Duenas landed third with a 32:34 clocking.
In the distaff side, De los Santos showed that whatever the weather condition is, night or day time, she remained as Cebu’s Road Running Queen.
De los Santos registered the best time of 34:52. Madelyn Carter came in second with the time of 35:22, while Gerly Rose Baylon wound up third in 42:04.
Kenya's Simon Losiaboi grabbed the men’s 5K title in 16:59. Jess Gonzaga trailed Losiaboi with the time of 17:24, while Riez Enriquez got the third place honors in 17:50.
The top three placers in the women's 5K were Mary Joy Tabal (20:49), Crizel Diongson (21:49) and Joeyry Lee (22:02) clocking.
In the 3K division of the race presented by Energizer in partnership of GMA-7, Jorry Ycong and Aiza Suwaybaguio topped their respective categories. – THE FREEMAN
