Energizer Night Race today at Parkmall

CEBU, Philippines - Energizer, in partnership with GMA 7, will hold the first “Night Race” in Cebu this Saturday, July 10.

More than 2,500 running enthusiasts and a number of Kapuso celebrities led by Iza Calzado, JC Tiuseco, Rochelle Pangilinan, Luis Alandy, and Paolo Paraiso are expected to take part in the event, which will start off at the Parkmall West Parking Area in Mandaue City. 

The Energizer Night Race, a run-in-the-dark-with-headlight type of race, is a novelty in the running community. Participants for this Saturday’s run can join any of the three categories - 10K, 5K, and 3K for both male and female divisions.

The top finishers for the different categories will each receive Php10,000; while the second and third placers will each receive Php7,000 and Php5,000, respectively. In addition, the top three finishers for the various categories will all receive medals and Energizer gift packs. 

Special awards will also be given to the oldest runner, the youngest runner, and the largest contingent of runners.

Further, the motorists are advised to take alternate routes to avoid inconvenience as the race routes in W.O. Seno St.; Ouano Ave.; E.O Perez St.; M. Logarta Ave.; G. Lopez Jaena St.; and A. Del Rosario St. will be closed for traffic from 7:00PM to 10:00PM.

More than being the first of its kind, the Energizer Night Race is also a ‘run-for-a-cause’ activity as a portion of the registration fee will be donated to the Kapuso Foundation, which will benefit the indigent hearing-impaired kids in Cebu.

The awarding of hearing aids and the battery supplies to the chosen beneficiaries will be held on the night of the race with GMA Kapuso Foundation Executive Vice President Mel Tiangco in attendance together with the Energizer brand managers.

All runners are advised to check in by 6pm for the distribution of the headlights and caps. This is one of the most important pre-race activity, as all streetlights in the race route will be switched off during the race and only the headlights will be used by the runners to light the path.

By 7:30pm, all runners will be called to assemble at the starting point. There will be a warm-up session with Rochelle Pangilinan, to be followed by a demonstration on the proper use of the Energizer headlights. Gunstart is at 8:30pm.

Awarding ceremonies will follow at 10pm to be hosted by GMA Cebu’s pride Anna Maris Igpit, together with Party Pilipinas’ Party Jocks Bella Padilla and Rico Robles.

Kapuso stars will also join the post-race celebration, with Langit Sa Piling Mo star Katrina Halili completing the list. Popular alternative rock band Parokya Ni Edgar will also perform a special set for everyone during the awarding ceremonies.
