Yeo tops 3rd Amo Cup

CEBU, Philippines - Alex Yeo led the winners of the 3rd Amo Cup, which also served as the June Monthly Medal, which was held last Sunday at the Alta Vista Golf and Country Club.

Yeo fired a gross score of two-over-par 74 strokes on nines of 37 and 37 to win the lowest gross honors for the premiere handicap category.

The lowest net honors for class A went to Masahisa Kawakami with 67 off a gross score of 75. Runner-up honors went to Leo Saberon with a net score of 68. He edged Victor Gocela and Ed Acain in the countback.

The lowest gross honors for class B went to Cristino Lim, who fired six-over-par 78 strokes on nines of 36 and 42. He edged Bobby Baria in the countback.

The lowest net honors for class B went to Ernesto Siguan, who fired 65 strokes edging Benedict Uy in the countback. Uy settled for the runner-up trophy.

Marcelo Tan won the class C lowest gross title with 88 strokes shooting nines of 43 and 45.

Jacob Tanco had the lowest net for class C with 66 while Kent Ong was the runner-up with 68 strokes.

Chandran Rama bagged the lowest gross honors for the seniors’ class shooting two-over-par 74 strokes on nines of 37 and 37.

Felix Chua had the lowest net with a tournament-best 60 strokes off a gross score of 91. Runner-up honors for the 55 years old and above category went to Ben Yu with 62.

Choi Yi Hwa, the reigning ladies club champion, once again stamped her class by taking the lowest gross honors with 85 strokes.

The lowest net title went to Son Hye Seon with 66 strokes while runner-up honors went to Tessa Ozoa with a net score of 68.

Jaime Mendoza, who aced hole number 13, won the guest division title with a net score of 71 strokes off a gross 82. The Blind Callaway system was used to determine the handicaps of the players. Runner-up honors went to Cho Young Oh with a net score of 72.

Junior golfer Dominic Espinoza won the award for nearest to the pin on hole number 6 leaving 4 feet and 8 inches for a birdie try while Vicente ‘Inting’ Go had the most accurate drive on hole number 11 as he tee shot came to rest 2 and ¾ inches away from the center line.

The chairman of the tournament was Willy T. Go. He thanked major backer A. D. Gothong Manufacturing represented by Bambi Gothong-Tan for making the June monthly medal a big event. – THE FREEMAN
