Baria, 3 others top Deep Blue chess

CEBU, Philippines - Team 2 fought to a 2-all draw with Team 1 in the final and final round, but that was all it needed to rule the May edition of the Deep Blue ‘D’ Woodpusher Executive Chess Team Tournament at the Deep Blue Chess Club in SM City-Cebu.

Team 2, composed of Chuyan Evardo, Mandy Baria, Manuel Abucay and Allen Borbon, finished the five-round Swiss system competition with 6.0 points to take home the grand prize of P3,000.

Teams 3 and 1 posted 5.0 points apiece, but Team 3 got the second place honors courtesy of a higher tie-break output.

Team 3, manned by Leo Cortes, Maggi Dionson, June Mendoza and Condrad Pasion, got P2,000, while Team 1, powered by Miguel Banibane, Jovert Uy, Eli Padolina and Renier Vistar, received P1,000 for their efforts.

The board medallists were Miguel Banibane (Board 1), Maggi Dionson, and Romeo Lumanog (BOard 2), Felix Balbona and Manuerl Abucay (Board 3), and Condrad Pasion, and Allen Borbon (Board 4).

Balbona also won the wrist watch that was raffled off.
