Father and daughter pace View golf

CEBU, Philippines - The father and daughter tandem of Benjie and Joan Hortelano has set the early pace in the 12th View Invitational at the Alta Vista Golf and Country Club in Pardo, this city.

The father and daughter each shot 38 points in the Modified Stableford Scoring System.

The format awards six points for four-under-par, five for three under par, four for two under par, three for one under par, two for even par, and one for one over par. Players will be allowed to use three-fourths of their lowest handicap for the last three months.

With green playing very fast, several players struggled with putting yesterday.

The Hortelanos have a total of 76 points. Several teams were still playing after the 4 p.m. cut off of the results released to media.

Running second is the team of AVGCC vice president Richard Christopher Aznar and Rey Villar with 37 and 34 points respectively for 71 points.

Kim Kwang Seok and Hwag Kyu Buk have a total of 70 on rounds of 34 and 36 respectively.

Two teams are tied with 69 points apiece. These are the duos of Eduardo Manzano (37) and Ted Caranza (32) and that of Felix Villanueva (34) and Retired General Rodante Joya (35).

 Wendell Yap shot 37 points while his partner Andrew Cañete shot 31 for a total of 68 points.

With 66 points each are Robert Limyutiong (30) and Bruce Lee (36) and the tandem of Douglas Ong (39) and Oliver Ong (27).

Chandran Rama fired 37 points while his partner Alan Tuck made 27 for a total of 64.

Two teams are tied with 63 points apiece. These are that of Leo Saberon (35) and Rene Tariman (28) and this writer with 31 and Michael Go with 32.

Also finishing with more than 60 points was the team of Col. Romeo Gapuz and Lt. Col. Boy Lasangue with 62 shooting rounds of 29 and 33 respectively.

Gateway Motors (Kia) Cebu has put a Kia Rio sedan at stake for a hole-in-one while a Club Car golf cart, a lot from Santa Lucia Realty, non-cashable chips from Pagcor Cebu and Mactan, a trip to Hong Kong from Marist Royal Holidays Travel and Tours, a package from Marco Polo Plaza Hotel, and a Yamaha motorcycle from Norkis Trading are the others at stake.

These prizes will be assigned to specific par-3 holes during the four-day event.

In case more than one player will win a particular set of prizes, such will be equally shared.

Some of the prizes put on the line for an ace will be raffled off during the award rites if not won. The items to be raffle off will be officially announced during the awards ceremony.

There is also a Skygo motorcycle at stake for an eagle on all of the par-4 holes.
