Kartzone hosts Honda One Make Race

CEBU, Philippines - It’s all systems go for the penultimate leg of the Honda One Make Race Underbone Circuit Racing 2009-2010 this Sunday at Kartzone, in Panagdait, this city.

This Sunday’s action will give the Cebuano riders a chance to cut down the lead of Ernie Daguio, Jr. of Davao, who leads the Rider of the Year race since he told organizers he won’t be racing on the seventh leg.

Daguio holds a 28-point lead for the ROY award after ruling the Iloilo and Bacolod leg and placed second in the kick-off leg here.

Cebuanos Gary Cañeda, Peter Gjengaar and Lyndon Requilme still have a chance overtake Daguio based on the points they got so far in the 125 novice open, the highest class among those featured in this series.

Cañeda stands with 16 points, Gjengaar with 14 and Requilme with 10 points.

With a rider to get a maximum of 20 points out of the remaining two legs, Cebu’s bets still have a chance to overtake Daguio.

With such scenario, Honda Philippines’ Juno Villena during the event’s press conference at Kartzone yesterday sees a good battle to watch and hopes that Daguio will not waste the hard work he put up just to get the lead for the overall championship.

Ironically, while Daguio leads the ROY plum in the Visayas region, another rider is leading the charge in Mindanao as the former had been experiencing some rough times in the latest Mindanao action.

Aside from the 125 novice open, Daguio also leads in the 100-110 novice open with 30 points while Cebu’s Raul Cabahug spearheads in two classes, the 100-110 super stock beginners with 28 points and the 125 super stock with 18 points as Lyndon Requilme leads in the All-Honda Beat with 25 points.

Even as it’s already the second to the last leg for the Visayas region, organizers of the event decided to include two other new classes—the First timers class and the Club/team Race.

The First Timers class will be for riders who are still new in underbone circuit racing, if not those who have raced in at least two races but without a podium finish while the team race will feature two of a team or club’s best riders competing on the tracks at the same time against another teams’ bets.

This Sunday’s event which is part of Kartzone Race Weekend is supported by Honda Philippines Incorporated along with Du Ek Sam Inc., Evergreen Elite Motorcycle Sales, Motortrade Topline, Ranola Motor Center, Wrenley’s Motor Plaza, Silver Wing Motors, Vis Motor Corporation, Honda Motor World and 103.5 Wild FM.  (FREEMAN NEWS)
