- NLQ -

CEBU, Philippines - Vicente ‘Inting’ Go and Commander John Garaña of the Philippine Navy topped their respective categories in yesterday’s Fellowship Tournament at the Alta Vista Golf and Country Club in Pardo, this city.

The tournament was participated in by members of the tournament committee and other club officers of AVGCC and officers of the Central Command of the Armed Forces of the Philippines.

Go, a director of the host club and also the tournament chairman, scored a gross 81 strokes and finished with a net score of 68 in a round highlighted by birdies on the 1st and 6th holes to win the category for the host club members.

First runner-up was Rod Señido, a member of the membership screening and tournament committees of AVGCC, scoring a net 69 off a gross 90 strokes.

Second runner-up was Jonathan Yu, a member of the tournament committee, who scored a net even-par 72 strokes off a gross 91.

Garaña, carded a gross score of 83 strokes and had a handicap of 10 in the Blind Callaway System to finish with a net score of 73 strokes to top the Centcom division.

His win did not come very easy as he had to pull past Lt. Gen. Ralph Villanueva, commander of the Centcom, in the countback to break their tie.

Villanueva settled for the first runner-up honors with a net score of 73 strokes off a gross 105. Garaña beat him in the countback by virtue of a better gross score on the back nine. Garaña made 40 against Villanueva’s 53.

Second runner-up was Col. Mel Feliciano with a net score of 75 strokes off a gross 100.

The tournament also served as a tune-up for those participating in the 12th View Invitational, which tees off at AVGCC on Thursday and will run until Sunday. (FREEMAN NEWS)
