CEBU, Philippines - The University of Southern Philippines Foundation (USPF) volleybelles are all primed up for the national stage via the 7th Shakey’s Girls V-League National Finals “Tournament of Champions” on May 18-23 in Tacloban City.
After a two-year title drought, USPF of coach Jordan Paca shot back to the limelight after snatching the regional championship with a decisive win over Pajo National High School last week.
Tougher battle for the overall crown looms ahead as each region is sending its best players.
USPF will be spearheaded by team captain Jinky Garridos along with Cyd Demecillo along with new comers, Charie Mae Liaz, Maria Niña Fernandez, Sheena Quiño and Shyrra Cabriana.
Paca will also bank on his reinforcements in Athena Sucalit and Grethcel Soltones of PNHS and Excel Ignacio of Don Gerardo Ouano Memorial National High School.
“With tour intense practice, I could say that we could give a good fight to our opponents during the nationals. I am developing further the skills and capacities of my players and I believe that they are ready,” said Paca.
“We could not assure that we will bring home the crown, but we’re aiming for it. This year’s league will feature the best of the best teams from the different participating regions, so we’re preparing for a tougher competition. We will do our best to bring pride and honor as we go back to Cebu ,” Paca added.
In four consecutive years that USPF represented Cebu in the national finals, it finished second in 2004 to 2006 and landed third in 2007.
Hope Christian School of Manila is back to defend its crown in the Philippine Volleyball Federation (PVF)-sanctioned event supported by Mikasa, Toby’s Sports, Dunkin’ Donuts and Metro Sports. (FREEMAN NEWS)
