CEBU, Philippines - The surge in the popularity of running and the increasing number of events have helped promote the popularity of the sport, but when schedules clash, this could pose a problem to participants.
Two events are set on May 23 – the 1st Eagle Run and the Fair Trade Run, in separate venues.
The organizers of the 1st Eagle Run led by Dr. Yong Larrazabal along with the Sacred Heart School for Boys (now SHS-Ateneo de Cebu) class of 1985 were first to announce their event.
This race will be held at the Cebu Doctors’ University campus at the Mandaue Reclamation Area, which is a popular running venue due to the fact that vehicular traffic is almost nil in this place.
Larrazabal is saddened that another race is set on the same day, but said they have already about 500 registrants and they expect the number to reach 1,000.
His group has long announced their event, which will feature 5K and 10 races.
The organizers of the Fair Trade Run reportedly said that “this is a free country” and runners can choose where they would join.
Their event is set at the Asiatown IT Park and will feature 3K, 5K and 10K events.
Registration for the 1st Eagle Run is pegged at P250.
Those interested can list up at Dessert Factory at Ayala Center Cebu or at the Center for Sight of Cebu Doctors’ Hospital.
Aside from the cash prizes and other exciting prizes for the winners, participants of the event will also get a chance to own a Kenneth Cobonpue limited edition “Yoda Easy chair,” the grand prize for the raffle draw that will be held during the awarding ceremony.
The Fair Trade Run also has a registration fee of P250 and participants will get a singlet, race bib, map, some freebies and snacks.
Registration centers are Runnr at Ayala Center-Cebu until May 16 and at the Cebu City Sports Center and at the Fair Trade until May 20. (FREEMAN NEWS)
