Exciting final in Milo netfest

- Caecent No-ot Magsumbol -

CEBU, Philippines - Christopher Encarnacion and Jan Godfrey Seno have played against each other in several championship matches already, yet today’s final encounter in the 2010 Milo Junior Tennis Cup-Visayas leg at the Cebu Country Club is expected to be the most exciting by far.

This is because a slot in the national finals is at stake here.

Encarnacion missed the title last year while Seno is hoping to finally get the long awaited revenge after getting beaten for several times already.

Encarnacion made it to the final slot at the expense of Arthur Craig Pantino, 6-1, 6-0. Seno dismissed Charber Dael, 6-0, 6-0 in the semifinal round of the boys’12 division.

Encarnacion was eyeing a double finals appearance, but missed to advance into the boys’14-under final round.

Encarnacion lost to the little-known Ralph Juliane, 6-0, 6-1 yesterday.

Juliane will be facing either Adrian Parangan or Christopher Ugarte in the boys’ 14 final.

In the distaff side, it’s Krissiane Issa Kintanar and Clarissa Mae Fuentes after in the championship round after Kintanar outsmarted Mary Joy Calapre, 6-4, 6-0, while Fuentes dismissed Elgy Dasian,7-5, 6-1.

The unisex 10-under and the girl’s 12 as well as the boys and girls’16 will still have their semifinal round in the morning and the final battle either before lunch time or early afternoon already.

The unisex 10-under along with the boys and girls’12 and 14 girls’ winners will represent the Visayas region in the national finals at the Clark Freeport Zone in Mabalacat, Pampanga this August.

Aside from the five classes though, organizers of the said event have decided to include the boys and girls’ 16 and 18 division to give the older players exposure as well.

Niño and Sally Mae Siso, who both represented the country in several tournaments in Malaysia after winning the national finals of this event a few years back, are also in the final round for this year’s action here already.

Niño will face Israel Abarquez again for the boys’18-under final.

Surprisingly, Abarquez had been winning against Niño in their three previous encounters.

Niño hopes to redeem himself by beating Fritz Satera, 6-3,6-2 while Abarquez was too much for Renz Ma, 6-0, 6-0.

Sally Mae, for her part, clobbered Jerian Campo, 6-0, 6-0 in the semifinal round to face either her sister Sallydine or Hannah Espinosa in the girls’18 finals. (FREEMAN NEWS)
