CEBU, Philippines - Cebu's pride Jon-Jon Adlawan did not let his hometown fans down as he upstaged Manila’s Kenneth San Andres to dominate the motocross event of the 2010 Cebu Festival the other night at the South Road Properties.
Adlawan came up with a double victory through the premiere pro class and the experts division, which came as a timely birthday present for his dad Jonas and for his mom Leila on Mother's Day.
Adlawan made a good start in the pro open action until a flat tire in the fourth lap caused him to slow down, paving the way for San Andres' victory in the first heat.
In the second and final heat, Adlawan bounced back with Aplomb to snatch the title away from San Andres as fellow Cebuano Jubenile Abellar landed third.
Former star rider Jovie Saulog could only make it to fourth place in the pro class.
In the experts battle, Adlawan had an easy way on top after edging out Irwin Uypitching and Abellar in convincing fashion.
Jubenile Abellar though was able to clinch a champion’s trophy via the intermediate class against his brother Juvanni while San Andres’ teammate Miggy Tolentino settled for third.
Tolentino topped novice open production, while Cyril Tariman and Adam Uypitching occupied the next two spots.
On the other hand, Seigfred Ornopia collared a double victory after ruling the veterans A and B over Jun Enriquez.
Donkey Sanchez ruled the novice open enduro after a heated battle against Alex Abalo and Ray Querol.
Sanchez, however, was outsmarted by Joseph del Socorro in the beginners production, while Wilber Maraño ended third.
Peewee Galla dominated the peewee class over Froilan Mendarez as Ken Ornopia claimed the third spot. Galla also had a second place finish in the mini class won by JP Cuesta. – THE FREEMAN
