Upset rocks Sundown Run
CEBU, Philippines - Upset rocked the Sundown Run at the South Road Properties after Mary Joy Tabal stunned the longtime undefeated Mary Grace de los Santos the other day.
Tabal, a student of Southwestern University, brought De los Santos back to earth after completing the 10-kilometer race in 44 minutes and 41.33 seconds.
De los Santos, who saw action in last week's 200-kilometer Laguna de Bay Challenge Ultra Relay Marathon, finished second in 45:15.05 followed by Madelyn Carter in 45:48.12.
Joeyry Lee came out fourth with the time of 51:21.88, while RP triathlete Lhoriz Echavez, who recently topped her age group in the Subic Bay International Triathlon, placed fifth with a 52:52.67 clocking.
While Tabal stole the limelight from De los Santos, Kenyan Simon Losiaboi stayed on top in the men’s division with the time of 36:04.41.
Joebert Carolino wound up second in 37:55.91, while Riez Enriquez got the third spot in 37:50.99. Elmer Bartolo (39:15) and Dondon Singson (40:36) took the fourth and fifth places, respectively.
Mendel Lopez reigned supreme in the 5K class with the time of 16 minutes and 10 seconds. Philip Dueñas trailed Lopez in 16:48 while Joel Delposo took the third spot in 17: 27.
In the distaff side, Meriam Miranda emerged as the fastest with the time of 21: 44 followed by Aiza Suaybaguio (22:28) Clarris Diongson and Gery Rose Baylon.
Jorry Ycong and Crizel Diongson topped their respective classes in the 3K run.
Ycong placed first with a 9:56 clocking followed by Michael Estrera and Ian Bernido, while the top three in the women's bracket were Diongson, Sheena Gacayan and Jade Recto. – THE FREEMAN
