Sally Mae prevails in Siso sister act

CEBU, Philippines - Sally Mae Siso proved to be far better than her older sister Sallydine as she easily defeated the latter in the girls 18-under final of the 15th Gullas Cup, the biggest and longest-running junior tennis competition in southern Philippines which came to a close yesterday at the Cebu Country Club.

Unfortunately, their only brother Niño faltered in his bid in the boys division against Isreal Abarquez.

Sally Mae hit back at Sallydine in dominating fashion, 6-2, 6-1 to take home the girls 18-under crown. Sally Mae lost to her sister in another event in Dumaguete but only because she retired due to exhaustion having played five other games before their final encounter.

It was another impressive twinkill for Sally Mae as she scored a 6-0, 6-0 shutout of Krissiane Issa Kintanar to rule the girls 16-under class.

In the boys 18-under side through, Niño Siso fell prey to Abarquez, 6-4, 1-6, 10-8.

On the other hand, Palawan’s Alexie Santos also grabbed a double victory through the unisex 10-under and the girls 12-under.

Santos crushed Zethly Mae Alferez, 6-0, 6-0 in girls 12-under and then dumped Gener Francis Lambayan, 6-1, 6-2 in the unisex 10-under final.

Christopher Encarnacion claimed the boys 12-under plum after overpowering Lapu-Lapu’s Joshua Kinaadman, 6-1, 6-2, while Pardo’s Ralph Juliane lorded it over in the boys 14-under after surviving past Mark Dennis Garlet, 7-5, 1-6,10-0.

Fritz Satera came out the best in the boys 16-under after whipping Dan Eldred Cinco, 6-0, 6-2, while Crissiane Issa Kintanar seized the girls 14-under tiara at the expense of Naga’s Elgy Dasian, 6-1, 7-6. - THE FREEMAN
