SWU faces Ateneo in Shakey's V-League today

- Marigold Lebumfacil -

CEBU, Philippines - The Southwestern University (SWU) Lady Cobras face another acid test in their quest for glory as they go up against the Ateneo de Manila University Lady Eagles in the quarterfinal round of the Shakey’s V-League Season 7 today at The Arena in San Juan City.

The Lady Cobras will count the most from Thai reinforcement Piyatida Lasungnern and Erika Camille Verano.

Of course, both needed the support of Raphril Aguilar, Danika Gendrauli, Lorie May Layno, Danalie Baquiro and Mary Luilyn Pacinio as they shift their guns to a tougher challenge.

The Lady Eagles, on the other hand, will bank on Thai import Sontaya Keawbundit and guest player Charo Santos along with Fille Cainglet, Dzi Gervacio and Jem Ferrer.

“I hope we could give our opponents a good fight. It’s already a privilege for the team though to make it to the quarterfinal round considering that we’re just a neophyte in this prestigious tournament,” said SWU coach Joerem Yu.

Although defending champion University of Sto. Tomas (UST) is on their bracket, SWU could no longer have the chance to clash against Tigresses.

“It’s already a standard of the Shakey’s V-League that once a team was already defeated in the preliminary rounds by the same squad that belongs to their bracket in the quarterfinals, automatically the winning team will have an easy win record,” said SWU athletic director Ryan Aznar.

Joining SWU, Ateneo and UST in the quarterfinals are Adamson University, College of St. Benilde, San Sebastian College, Lyceum of the Philippines University, and University of St. La Salle-Bacolod.   (FREEMAN NEWS)
