Schumi's car

FULL POINT - Nimrod NL Quiñones -

CNN has reported that Mercedes Benz will be doing some changes on its cars that shall hopefully improve the chances of Michael Schumacher making a big comeback in Formula-1 racing this year.

Mercedes Benz plans to give Schumi’s car a new chassis and improved weight distribution that shall reignite the spark of his comeback. I hope I can explain how all these would help, but I am no expert to give you a scholarly discussion.

I am but an excited fan hoping to see my favorite racer win again.

The tweaked car shall have its baptism of fire in the Spanish Grand Prix next weekend and I hope that my all-time favorite Formula-1 driver would be getting the results he wants.

The slow start of Schumi this season could very well be like the way my favorite candidate for president had done in the surveys, whether they are true or not, as he started with very low figures.

He might not be the fastest at the start, but he is now gaining momentum and I hope that he would indeed come out ahead at the checkered flag.

Unfortunately, unlike F-1, the elections in our country are more like the cartoon show ‘Wack Races’ that I enjoyed watching as a kid where the villain and his dog would always use all sorts of tricks to help them win, but in the end, they lose.

I hope the same happens in our elections where the cheaters and the mudslingers will all lose.

I felt very honored last Sunday when a part of my column last Saturday was flashed on the screen at Casino Filipino Mactan when Retired General Rodante Joya welcomed the participants to the award rites of the Kadaugan sa Mactan 10th Island Tee.

Apparently, what I wrote about friends of the organizers coming forward to help the tournament was also what General Joya wanted to emphasize to the participants.

We see many more of these willing sponsors, who are coming forward to give their support in The View Invitational of Alta Vista Golf and Country Club this May 20 to 23 and the Y101 Corporate Cup set next month at Cebu Country Club.

Last Tuesday, Philippine Military Academy (PMA) Sambisig class 1991 also held a fund-raising golf tournament at the Tagaytay Midlands and we also had several friends of our mistahs coming forward to give their support.

From Cebu, we also got the support of ‘big brothers’ Oly Dychanco and Ramon Sebastian, who would have even played in the event if it were held here.

Maybe in the near future, we can hold the Sambisig golf tournament here in the Queen City of the South.

MILESTONES: Happy birthday greetings to Guadalupe barangay councilman Dino Faelnar and Leo Estal, who are turning a year older today.

My late friend Marvin Briones, who recently passed away, would have also celebrated his 40th birthday today. You will be missed, Marvs!

Advance greetings go to my ASMS La Salle classmate Anthony Chupungco and to my fellow UP Cebu High School Alumni Board Member Darmae Maningo, who are celebrating tomorrow.

More power to all of you!
