IM Kim Yap to hold simul chess in Cebu Festival at SRP

CEBU, Philippines - International Master Kim Steven Yap is the man to beat in a simultaneous chess exhibition, which is among the highlights of the Cebu Festival 2010 on May 8 at the South Road Properties.

Yap, who arrived yesterday from Malaysia, is one of the brightest chess players in the country today.

Registration is for free. Exciting prizes await to all players who could outsmart IM Yap.

Those who are interested to join the event are advised to bring their own chess sets. Souvenir t-shirts will be given to the early birds.

Prior to this simultaneous exhibition, a blitz tournament will be staged starting at 2 pm.

Entry fee for the blitz tilt is pegged at P50, with cash prizes at stake for the top performers.

The champion will get P3,000 while the second and third will receive P2,000 and P1,000, respectively.

The fourth and fifth will pocket P500 each.

The twin chess events are sponsored by Rose Pharmacy Chess Club in cooperation with FIDE Arbiters, National Master Roger Abella and international arbiter Marvin Ruelan.
