Due to lack of entries, girls 17 scrapped in Inter-Club bootfest
CEBU, Philippines - The girls division has been scrapped as only one team confirmed its participation in the Cebu Amateur Football Club (CAFC)-organized 10th National Inter-Club Football Cup set from April 24 to May 2 at different venues here.
CAFC president Glenn Quisido said that only Sacred Heart School-Jesuit signed up for the girls 17, promiting them to cancel such category in the week-long event.
“Actually, there are a lot of teams that would like to join the tournament but couldn’t make it as they couldn’t complete the number of players required for the 11-aside format,” said Quisido.
Quisido said that a team must have at least 15 to 20 players to be able to take part in the 11-aside format.
The other categories to be contested are the 38-above, men’s open, boys 17, 14 and 12-under and players 10 mix.
The boys 14 division drew the most number of entries with 10 led by defending champion Sacred Heart School.
The men’s open has seven teams bannered by reigning titlist Army’s 53rd Engineering Brigade. The men’s 38-above attracted five entries led by Hiroshi FC, Boys 17 with seven led by Abellana National School-Pomeroy, boys 12 with six and the players 10 with four.
Out of the confirmed participants, two are from other areas - Xavier School of Manila and Ormoc’s under-14 squad.
The National Inter-Club Football Cup spotlights CAFC’s 20th year of existence.
From merely a group of former varsity players of the University of San Carlos, the club has grown, opening doors to other players interested to join in and compete with them.
After a decade of joining several local competitions, CAFC decided to stage a tournament of its own, which is now a yearly undertaking under its care.
Registration fee is pegged at P5,000 for the men’s open, while the age-group teams will be assessed with P1,000.
Aside from trophies and medals, the men’s open champion will receiveP30,000, while the overall winner in the 38-above class will take home P10,000. The top performers in different age-groups will receive tokens plus medals and trophies. (FREEMAN NEWS)
