SWU's Thai import set to arrive tonight
CEBU, Philippines - Southwestern University’s Thai reinforcement will arrive tonight in Cebu to join the rest of the squad in preparation for the 7th Shakey’s V-League that wil begin on Friday at The Arena in San Juan City.
The 20-year-old Piyatada Lasungnern, a member of Thailand Junior national team, will unite with the Spiking Lady Cobras and train with them for three days before heading to the tough V-League action.
The reigning Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. (CESAFI) women’s champion of coach Joerem Yu has high hopes on Lasungnern, who will surely jack up their fighting spirit as they go up against the best women's volleyball teams in the country today.
Lasungnern will beef up the SWU belles who boast of Lorie May Layno, Danika Yolanda Gendrauli, Raphril Aguilar, Danalie Baquiro, Mary Luilyn Pacinio, Elizabeth Emnace and Rhea Loayon.
“I believe that she (Lasungnern) will surely be an advantage for the team and add boost for our defense and offense. With the team’s effort and determination, I can proudly say that they are well prepared and ready for the tough battle ahead,” said Yu.
Aside from the former three-time CESAFI champion University of San Jose-Recoletos (USJ-R) of Cebu Sports Hall of Famer coach Grace Antigua, SWU faces an uphill climb against defending champion University of Santo Tomas (UST), Ateneo de Manila University, (AdMU), Adamson University, Far Eastern University, San Sebastian , Lyceum, College of St. Benilde and University of St. La Salle-Bacolod.
“We will do our very best and hopefully we could bring honor and pride for Cebu,” Yu said. — Marigold P. Lebumfacil (THE FREEMAN)
