Baby Lancers advance into finals

CEBU, Philippines - The PTT Fuels-UV Baby Lancers completed a two-game sweep of Bibbo-CIT Wildkittens with a 94-85 victory to advance into the secondary division finals of the 4th CESAFI Partner’s Cup yesterday at the Cebu Coliseum.

The Baby Lancers, however, have to wait for their next opponent as the Ave Maria Sanctuary Park-USJR Baby Jaguars lashed back at the Enervon-UC Junior Webmasters, 86-83, to forge a rubbermatch in their own best-of-three semifinal series.

Three Baby Lancers picked up the scoring cudgels as they got their job done against the Wildkittens, who were hardly hit by the absence of their star player Mark Jayven Tallo who was admitted to Chong Hua Hospital after suffering a bad fall during Game 1.

Mark Tallo, Mark Jayven’s father, said his son is recovering well and is now out of danger after CT scan results showed that the reigning CESAFI Juniors MVP suffered no serious injuries.

Francisco Arong paced UV with 19 points, while Gerald Legarde and Eugene Nuñez each added 10 markers.

In the other game, the Baby Jaguars pounded on the Junior Webmasters’ erratic fourth-quarter showing. After June Arthur Go pushed USJ-R on top, 61-60, they picked up a big momentum when Ruel Padilla Jr. was called for a technical foul for swinging an elbow just two minutes gone in the same period.

After taking a 77-70 edge with 4:41 left to play, the Baby Jaguars were in full control the rest of the way.
