Mandaue pugs shine in Cortes boxing
CEBU, Philippines - The Mandaue City pugilists swept all but one of their assignments in the resumption of the Mayor Jonas Cortes Boxing At the Park Amateur Series over the weekend.
Mandaue won four bouts but failed to score a sweep after its 46 kgs. bet Reoxyl Tabogon fell prey to the little-known Jack Tepora of Omega Boxing Stable.
Still, the Mandauehanons were in jubilant mood as 49 kgs. Michael Romarate, 56 kgs. Basilio Sultan, Ryan Canilas and 57 kgs. Mark Vincent Bernaldez came out victorious.
Romarate mauled Omega’s Jordan Catubay, Sultan silenced Philippine-Australia Boxing Club’s Rodel Wenceslao, Canillas tamed Toledo’s Robert Etorma and Bernaldez overpowered another Omega Boxing Club mainstay Joel Ricabo.
PABC and Flores Boxing Club, on the other hand, ended their quest with an identical 2-2 win-loss records.
PABC’s Richard and Raymond Rama escaped with a similar 2-1 win over Banilad’s Ramel Castañares and FBC’s Rommel Tuñacao, respectively.
Jason Tuñacao joined his teammate Rodel Wenceslao in the loser’s bracket after he was outsmarted by Cabancalan National High School ’s Ferde San Roque in their 42 kgs. duel.
FBC pulled off two victories courtesy of 20 kgs. Gerry Soreño and 25 kgs. John Rico Inso. Soreño subdued Cabancalan’s Junrey Caspe, while Inso posted a 3-0 whitewash of another Cabancalan entry Vicente Seos-e, Jr.
Bacayan’s lone bet, Dominique Casañares, defeated FBC’s Mark Anthony Ybañez under the 22 kgs. division, while Balamban’s Robert Labanza beat Ermita’s Rogelio Campaña in their 57 kgs. battle. – Caecent No-ot Magsumbol (FREEMAN NEWS)
