Fr. Uy set to return as PRISAA regional president
CEBU, Philippines - Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) executive director and commissioner Fr. Vicente “Vic” L. Uy, SVD will return to his post as regional president of the Private School Athletic Association (PRISAA) starting July.
At the start of the new school year, Fr. Uy will be back serving as the regional president as his term as being the PSC commissioner will end on June 30.
“I’m happy to be back to where I came from. I would love to serve the schools once again like what I used to do,” said Uy, who has served the office for six years already.
Fr. Uy has been the PRISAA-7 president from 2000 to 2006 when he was still the athletic director and vice president for finance of the University of San Carlos.
Fr. Uy added that he was already given a go signal to go back in the religious service by the father provincial superior of the SVD Southern Province, which comprises the Visayas and Mindanao areas.
“Being a religious servant, I have to follow the orders of my superior head and I am not hesitant because I’m glad to serve again,” he said.
The athletic directors of the Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. (CESAFI) member schools have optimistic views on Fr. Uy’s return.
“It’s an honor and a privilege for Cebu and entire region 7 for Fr. Vic (Uy) to be back in the office knowing his track record in the PSC. For whatever he has learned being placed at the second highest position in PSC, he could surely share that especially in proper management and the different sports programs,” said University of Cebu athletic director Bernard Ricablanca.
“We are happy for his return in the sports arena. The school owners can easily support him. Nindot gyud ang iyang pagbalik, with the programs that he will have, we will support him all the way,” Ricablanca added.
The current PRISAA officer-in-charge, Ryan Aznar of Southwestern University, upon leaving his post, felt that Fr. Uy’s return was just in time.
“It’s an added boost for the region since his expertise will be passed to the region. At least kami pod mga athletic director, will be guided by Fr. Vic on what should we do and how to go about our specific tasks. It’s really a great advantage for us having Fr. Vic back as president,” Aznar said. – Marigold P. Lebumfacil (THE FREEMAN)
