2 swimming events this weekend at CCSC

CEBU, Philippines - The 2nd Osky Mabilog Memorial Cup National Age-Group and Person With Disability Swimming Competition and the 2010 National Youth Team Selection set this weekend at the Cebu City Sports Center have attracted entries from all over the country.

 So far, a dozen teams have confirmed their participation, with host Cebu Blue Marlins fielding in the biggest contingent of 40 tankers.

Out to challenge the Blue Marlins of coach Rolando Alvarez are the Silliman University Red Snappers, Biniyaran Tadpoles Swimming Club, Negros Oriental Blue Dolphines, Bohol Dolphins, 1st United Davao Swim Club, North Shores Waves, Negros Occidental Golf and Country Club, Dadiangas Torpedoes, Cagayan de Oro, Costland-Davao, GenSan Warriors and the Parañaque Thunder Swim Club.

The two-day tilt, organized by the Cebu Blue Marlins Swimming Club and sanctioned by the Philippine Aquatic Sports Association (PASA), is among the highlights of the Cebu City Charter Day celebration.

The swimmers will be classified into different age categories:18 years old and above,11-12, 15-17, 9-10, 13 -14 and 7-8.

On the other hand, the persons with disabilities will be competing in four events:50m freestyle, butterfly, backstroke and breast stroke.

Special awards will be given away to the team with the best uniform, biggest delegation, farthest delegation, first team to confirm participation and the most outstanding swimmer in each bracket. – Caecent No-ot Magsumbol (THE FREEMAN)
