USJ-R guns for solo lead in CESAFI Partner's Cup

CEBU, Philippines - The Ave Maria Sanctuary Park-sponsored USJ-R Jaguars shoot for the solo lead but they have a tough obstacle to hurdle as they take on the equally-strong Enervon C-UC Webmasters in the main game of the 4th CESAFI Partner’s Cup today at the Cebu Coliseum.

The Jaguars, who mangled their first two opponents in San Marino Corned Tuna-USC Warriors and the Prime Asia-DBTC Greywolves, are up for a tough challenge against the Webmasters, who thrashed Bibbo-CIT Wildcats in their opening assignment last January 30. They will slug it out on the hardcourt at 5:30 pm.

The reinforced Jaguars will bank on the services of three returnees in Jabe Delfino, Armand Ponce and Mannie Gabas. They are USJ-R’s main weapon against UC’s awesome threesome in June Mar Fajardo, Moncrief Rogado and the comebacking Edward Pao.

Pao missed the CESAFI action last year due to academic deficiency but the Webmasters still advanced to the finals against the powerhouse UV Lancers.

With the 6-foot-9 Fajardo still around and kept improving his game, the Webmasters didn’t bother to look for some other alumni to beef up their roster. Also, they believe that the present roster is enough to carry them into higher level.

In the other collegiate duel, the San Marino-USC Warriors hope to ride on the momentum of their stunning victory over the PTT Fuels- UV Lancers when they clash with the Bibbo-CIT Wildcats,

In the secondary matches, the Baby Jaguars, like their senior counterparts, gun for their third straight victory in as many starts when they tackle the Junior Webmasters (1-0), while the Baby Warriors will go up against the CIT Wildkittens in a battle of winless squads.   .   (FREEMAN NEWS)
