Correction

One of many emails I received yesterday was a correction of the results of the Mactan Island Golf Club’s Yearend Members’ Tournament results. If it were golf stroke it’s a recall.

It came a day late, but to be fair to the official winners, I’ll just run through the changes here.

The overall lowest net champion is Ret. Lt. Roberto Balcos, a fine gentleman, who I had a chance to play with during one of the many events at MIGC that I took part in. He was originally listed as the seniors’ champion, but his net score of 65 actually earned him the overall lowest net title.

I don’t know what triggered the changes, but thanks to the staff of MIGC for sending me a corrected copy.

Sandy Reyes, husband of Sigrid, the famous hairstylist from my wife’s high school class and younger sister of my classmate Rolex Tigol, is the class A champion and not the runner-up with his net score of 68.

Douglas Ong is the runner-up for the premiere handicap category with a net score of 69.

Nilo Gozo, who was first reported as runner-up for class B, is actually the champion with a net score of 68 while full-time lawyer, part-time columnist and I believe also a full-time golfer Ellie Espinoza is the runner-up with a net score of 70.

The class C champion is Fernando Cuizon with a net score of 68, he was first reported as the runner-up. He won the title via the countback over Michael Jay Albaña with the same net score.

With Balcos moved up to overall lowest net winner, the seniors’ title went to Col. Emeberto Creus with a net score of 67 strokes while the ever-smiling Boy Alegre (he lives up to his family name) is the runner-up with a net score of 68.

There are no changes in the overall lowest gross won by Bart Vergara and for the ladies’ division topped by my good friend Batch Hernandez with Rowena Nakada as runner-up.

So much excitement has been generated for the Cebu City Marathon on January 10, 2010 and it seems that the running buffs and even organizers of events suddenly found a common rallying point.

With the popularity of running in Cebu, there are times when there are two events held simultaneously on the same day that does not only divide the attention of the participants, but also results to fewer competitors in some races.

The Cebu City Marathon is now accepting entries and those who will be among the first 500 registrants for the 21K and the full marathon, which is 42K, will get a ticket to the carboloading activity at the Terraces of Ayala Center Cebu two days prior to the race.

Deadline for registration is set on December 31, so don’t take too much time to decide if you’re running or not.

This will be a huge race with P300,000 in cash prizes at stake courtesy of the Cebu City Government.

MILESTONES: Advanced birthday greetings to my cousins Carlo Jann A. Quiñones and Dennis C. Iway, who are both turning a year older tomorrow.

The same goes to my friends Anol Mongaya, The Freeman lifestyle columnist Han Kintanar and Jay Montecillo, who are also celebrating on Friday.
