-

CEBU, Philippines - Over 1,000 running buffs are expected to hit the streets and take part in the 2nd Talisay Run-12K Year-End Chase on December 27 starting and ending at the Talisay City Hall compound. One side of the south coastal road from barangay Lawaan up to the unfinished fish port in barangay Tangke will be closed to traffic to ensure the safety of the participants.

Jointly presented by the Kabangis Runners of Talisay, the Talisay City Sports Commission and Task Force Alpha, the event was formally launched by the organizers in a news conference yesterday at McDonald’s-Mambaling branch.

Present during the affair were Kabangis Runners president Edgar Canton, Talisay City councilor Rudy Cabigas, Task Force Alpha president Jameson Gochua, TFA directors Felix Villaceran and Joe Mendoza, event organizer Hazel Busa and race coordinator Joel Baring.

“I hope this endeavor would attain the same success as last year,” said Canton.

Cabigas, for hist part, enjoined everyone to join the race as running is one of the most effective ways of maintaining a healthy physical well-being.

“I encourage everyone to participate in the race because we all know for the fact that running is good for our health,” said Cabigas.

A total of four categories will be contested: the 12K open for men and women; 5K open for men and women; 3K open for boys and girls, 12 years old and under and the open for media practitioners.

In addition to trophies, cash prizes will be awarded to the top three finishers of each category, with the fourth and fifth placers to receive gift items. This year’s edition is principally sponsored by Serge Osmeña III and Chiz Escudero.

Busa, on the other hand, said proceeds of the race will be donated to charitable institutions of TFA’s choice.

“We believe that our efforts and hardwork in organizing this race will go a long way because of the help of Task Force Alpha,” said Busa.

For the convenience of the footracers coming from Cebu City, a bus will be positioned at the Cebu City sports center to ferry them at 4:30 am.

Registration centers are located at the Talisay City sports commission office and at the Cebu City sports center. Registration fee is pegged at P150 inclusive of a race singlet, race packet and light snacks. For further details, interested parties may call 272-2755 or 0920-6777391.
