Calling a penalty on himself

FULL POINT - Nimrod NL Quiones -

The annual Christmas Fair of Sacred Heart School-Jesuit will be held tomorrow at the school’s campus along H. Abellana St., Canduman, Mandaue City.

See you all there.

Tiger Woods has admitted to his transgressions and is very sorry for them.

He has done what a golfer is expected to do, report himself for committing an infraction and penalizing himself for it.

Although the game of golf punishes players, who commit violations that easily, the same is not always what happens in real life.

Public relations experts say that Tiger took a long time to admit his fault and he would not have gotten all that bad publicity had he just admitted it immediately.

In golf, if you take time to admit a mistake, you can be disqualified, but then if you doubt how to proceed, the game allows you to play two balls until you hole out on that particular hole and consult with a rulesman.

Unfortunately in the admission of Tiger, he did not play with the wrong ball, he said he played with “fire.”

Experts think that the world’s best golfer will be able to go through all of these with just a few scratches, not necessary literally, which he already got in that accident that he figured in.

I’d like to see Tiger roar again after this one and most of all, I’d like to see his family man image back.

It may take a while like when he was in a slump and wasn’t winning in the Majors, but I’m sure he can do it as the slogan of the famous brand he promotes says.

I was in the final meeting of the tournament committee of Alta Vista Golf and Country Club yesterday morning for the Christmas Fun Golf Classic.

The event is set on December 11 to 13 and players will be allowed two days to play.

It seems that all kinks have been ironed out during the meeting and what really surprises me is always the enthusiasm of the committee members when they prepare for big events.

Being in the committee is actually a thankless job. I have been part of such since back in 1996 and you often meet people who are just so hard to please.

What however gets the members of the committee going are the kind words that many of the players say after the event.

Sometimes even just the applause for those who worked hard to make the tournament happen would be more than enough to encourage the committee members to keep on going tournament after each tournament.

MILESTONES: Congratulations to my good friend Chester C. Cokaliong and Cokaliong shipping Lines Inc. for the recent awards that they garnered from the Marina and the Bureau of Quarantine.

The company is also celebrating it’s 20th anniversary in grand fashion this Tuesday at the CICC.

Happy birthday greetings go to my classmate Dr. Geraldine ‘Gigi’ Alcarez-Co, who turns a year older today.

The same goes to my friends Alfred Reyes and Jerry Rapes and most especially to my favorite entertainment writer of all-time, Ryan Mark Borinaga.

Tomorrow’s greetings go to Elmer Karaan. More power to all of you!
